When he first signed for the Turin side, the Argentine was criticised for being out of shape - but now he faces very different accusations
Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain has been forced into a defence of his physique – not because he is out of shape but because of his ripped stomach, with some questioning whether a photo posted on his Instagram account is real.
The Argentine striker, who signed for Juve from Napoli in the summer for a club record fee of €90 million, was criticised for being out of shape when he arrived in Turin. Now, though, he is a very different beast and showed off his abs on social media after a training session during the winter break.
“I didn’t use Photoshop, but it made me laugh to think that some people thought I did,” he said in the aftermath of Sunday’s victory over Bologna, during which he bagged a double.
“I try to repay the trust of Juventus in every game, as the club did everything to sign me.
“Is there pressure having signed for €90 million? I tried to forget about it as soon as I joined the club and I tried to prove to the management that they did the right thing. Sometimes I think about it, but it does not bother me.”
Higuain has scored 15 times in 24 outings for Juve since the start of the season.
