Juventus confirm Chiellini has not suffered any 'long-term damage'

The Italian champions will continue to monitor their captain who is struggling with a minor thigh problem and looks set to miss the Champions League trip to Lyon

Juventus have revealed the thigh injury which kept Giorgio Chiellini out of Saturday's 2-1 win over Udinese is not serious.

Chiellini, 32, missed the win because of a strain to his left thigh he suffered in training on the morning before the game.

He had previously been withdrawn from Italy's squad for their World Cup qualifiers with Spain and Macedonia during the latest international break with bruising to his calf.

However, he is not expected to be out long term although he looks set to miss Tuesday's Champions League trip to face Lyon, with Juventus sitting top of Group H on four points from their two games.

"Following a recurrence of an injury previously sustained to his left thigh in training yesterday morning, medical examinations on Giorgio Chiellini today have come back positive, ruling out any long-term damage for the defender," read a club statement.

"Chiellini's condition will however continue to be monitored in the coming days with further inspections set to take place at the start of next week."
