The Nerazzurri chief says his side's target remains a top-four finish this term and feels it may take "years" before they hit the heights of oldInter president Erick Thohir has warned fans that they must not expect an immediate return to former glories.
The Indonesian businessman bought the club from long-standing owner Massimo Moratti back in October as the Nerazzurri look to rebuild after a few unstable seasons.
However, he has said that Inter remain a work in progress and that a fourth-placed finish remains their target for the current season.
"Compared to last season the team has improved," he told Indonesian newspaper Republika.
"But the target remains fourth and I think that's plausible for us this season. I urge the fans to be patient – a business is not built in a few months. We're going to have to wait a few years.
"You only have to look at the model franchise in America to see that."
Inter, who are currently fifth in Serie A, travel to Genoa on Sunday.
