The ex-Inter defender believes that the 37-year-old Roma attacker has the ability to continue playing at the highest level for as long as he feels physically fitRoma star Francesco Totti can play until he is 45, according to former Italy international Marco Materazzi.
The 37-year-old attacker has been in sensational form this season, with his double in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Inter having sparked calls for a recall to the Azzurri set-up, seven years after he retired from international football following his country's World Cup triumph in Germany.
Materazzi was impressed - but not surprised - by Totti's performance at San Siro and feels that the Giallorossi legend has the talent and technique to continue plying his trade at the highest level for as long as his ageing body holds up.
"Totti can play until he's 45," the ex-Nerazzurri defender told Tele Radio Stereo.
"It's not easy when you're getting older, however. Even I was beginning to become slow but the important thing was the mindset.
"What he did, it did not surprise me. Perhaps it may surprise some people because of his age. What he does on the pitch is so natural."
Totti will be hoping to inspire Serie A leaders to an eighth successive league victory when they face second-placed Napoli on October 19.
