The Giallorossi have begun 2013-14 with five straight wins from as many games and sit two points clear of Inter, Napoli and Juventus.
And while the Dutchman admits that the Bianconeri remain the obvious choice to finish top in Italy, he insists his side's spirit and individual quality can help Roma challenge.
"Juventus remain the favourites for the Scudetto but Roma are there too," he told Sky Sport.
"I was so impressed by the way we celebrated the win at Sampdoria, all together including the kit staff.
"Head coach Rudi Garcia came in and improved everything that wasn’t working. We’ve got great players here, as Miralem Pjanic is a real talent and Daniele De Rossi knows how to do everything.
Strootman was brought to Roma this summer in a big-money deal but, when questioned on how much pressure he felt his pricetag put him under, he revealed that he is not at all bothered by the fee.
"I don't feel pressure because of the sum invested in me, no," he added.
