thumbnail Hello,

The 20-year-old attacker is honoured by the reported interest from the Giuseppe Meazza side and has explained his decision to leave Barcelona two years ago

Sampdoria youngster Mauro Icardi has admitted that he would be open to a move to Inter if the Nerazzurri were to make an approach this summer.

The Argentine attacker is continually being linked with a transfer to the Giuseppe Meazza side ahead of the 2013-14 campaign and he feels flattered that Inter are keeping tabs on him.

"Inter are a great team with a lot of Argentine players who are real champions," Icardi was quoted as saying by Corriere dello Sport.

"I try not to think about any transfer rumours, but it's flattering to hear that Inter are interested. If a club like them want you, you can only be happy.

"They have [Javier] Zanetti, who is a real myth for us Argentines. He is a great champions and I'm really sorry about his injury."

The 20-year-old then went on to explain his decision to leave Barcelona for Samp in the summer of 2011.

"Together with my agent and my father, we noticed that it's hard for a certain type of striker to fit in at Barcelona. Even a world-class player like [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic struggled. If even someone like Ibra is having a difficult time, what would it be like for me... It was in my best interest to move on."

Icardi made the headlines earlier this season when he netted twice against Juventus to help Sampdoria to a 2-1 win over the Italian champions, before scoring four goals in a 6-0 win against Pescara.

He has a contract with his current club until 2015.
