Palermo boss Giuseppe Sannino has claimed that Federico Balzaretti wants to remain at the Renzo Barbera amidst speculation linking him with a move away from Sicily.
Both Roma and Napoli have recently expressed their interest in the Italy International, while the man himself admitted earlier this summer that he was open to the idea of joining Paris Saint-Germain due to family reasons.
Sannino freely admits that talks with the player are ongoing, but is increasingly confident that Balzaretti will still be at Palermo come the start of the new Serie A season.
"We promised on another to meet again on July 31," the coach explained to Radio Radio. "But, as far as I'm concerned, at the moment he's a Palermo player, even if there is little certainty in football.
"I spoke with the boy and he would like to remain here. The will of a player is always important and Balzaretti was clear with me [in that regard].
"There is definitely a lot of speculation surrounding him but my job is to work with those I have here. And even if he goes to another team, the club will try to fill the gap that will have been created."
The 30-year-old Balzaretti, who starred for Italy at Euro 2012, joined Palermo from Fiorentina in 2008.
