The former Spain Under-21 international would be open to a transfer away from the Stadio Olimpico following the dismissal of Luis Enrique at the end of last seasonRoma left-back Jose Angel has revealed that although he has not been contacted by Benfica, he would still be interested in a move to the Portuguese giants.
The 22-year-old joined the Giallorossi from Sporting Gijon at the start of last season but with Zdenek Zeman replacing Luis Enrique as coach, doubts have been cast over the Spaniard's future in the team, leading to speculation over a potential transfer back to the Iberian peninsula.
"On the possibility of going to Benfica, what I know is what the press publishes. Nobody in Rome told me anything, nor was I contacted by anyone from Benfica," Jose Angel told Record.
"But it is a great club and it would be a fantastic opportunity for me to play there."
The former Sporting defender made 27 Serie A appearances in an underwhelming season for Roma and has reportedly also attracted the attentions of Valencia, Espanyol and Granada.
