The animal named Ariel was donated at a young age and trained to become a professional sea rescue dog.
The accident happened around noon in the Sant'Agosto area where the girl found herself in trouble some 20-30 metres away from the shore due to the strong winds.
The man was also exposed to the difficult weather conditions and was even further off the shore, but Ariel and its trainer managed to spot the danger and intervened.
The labrador previously saved the life of a young woman back in July 2008.
