While the club has yet to announce the deal, the midfielder's registration as an Inter player has already been confirmed by Lega Calcio, the Italian football league.
The player is thought to be a replacement for Thiago Motta, who is set to sign for Paris Saint-Germain today, according to the player's agent.
Guarin's imminent arrival was brought up during Claudio Ranieri's press conference ahead of Wednesday's Serie A clash with Palermo and the Inter coach admitted that he was looking forward to working with the Colombia international.
"Do I like Guarin? Yes, but it is not official yet," the trainer explained, smiling. "He's a good player, of great quality and physical strength.
"He should give us a big boost and I hope that he'll be ready [to play soon]."
According to Sky Sport24, that Inter will pay an initial £1.2 million to take the midfielder on loan until the end of the season with a view to signing the player on a permanent transfer in June for £9.1m.
Guarin, who had also been linked with Juventus during the current transfer window, had been under contract to Porto until 2014 but had become increasingly frustrated by a lack of game time at the Dragao this season.
