Gennaro Gattuso believes Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez could still join AC Milan.

Milan CEO Adriano Galliani announced on Thursday that the club had ended their pursuit of the Argentina international because of Alexandre Pato’s decision to reject a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Tevez’s representative, Kia Joorabchian, claimed on Saturday that the deal could still go through and Gattuso also suspects that the proposed transfer is not yet dead because of the player's desire to sign for the Italian champions.

“Tevez could still arrive with a formula similar to that used to sign [Mark] van Bommel,” the Italian midfielder stated during an interview with Stadio Sprint, alluding to the Dutchman’s move to San Siro from Bayern Munich last January on an initial six-month deal.

Gattuso also gave his opinion on Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri’s decision to sign a contract extension with the club until 2014 and president Silvio Berlusconi’s claim that he had played a major part in Pato’s decision to remain at San Siro.

"The re-signing of Allegri did not surprise me at all,” the former Rangers man said. “It was obvious that it would go like this.

“On Pato, however, Berlusconi’s intervention was decisive. At age 22, he [Pato] has already scored over 50 goals [for the club].”

Gattuso is currently sidelined with an eye condition and it is not yet known when he will be able to resume playing.
