AC Milan's Thiago Silva: We respect Inter but do not fear them
The Brazilian defender acknowledged that the Rossoneri face a tough test on Sunday evening, but he is confident that the Italian champions will rise to the challenge

AC Milan’s Thiago Silva admits that he is wary of the threat posed by a resurgent Inter side ahead of this weekend’s derby yet insists that the Rossoneri do not fear their city rivals.
After a disastrous start to the season under former coach Gian Piero Gasperini, the Nerazzurri are now entertaining thoughts of the Scudetto having climbed to fifth in the table on the back of five successive victories under new boss Claudio Ranieri.
Inter’s form has not gone unnoticed by Milan, who are side by side with Juventus at the summit of Serie A, but defender Thiago Silva insists the team are not afraid of the task at hand.
"Inter has grown in recent times,” the Brazilian admitted to Sky Sport 24. "We have respect for them but no fear."
Only in recent weeks have the Nerazzurri's forwards begun to fire although Thiago Silva has never been in any doubt about the quality of one Inter striker in particular.
"Out of all of them, we have to pay attention to Milito, who is a great player," the centre-half said of the Argentine forward.
Addressing his own form, Thiago Silva admitted that he is pleased with where he is at right now in his career.
"For a Brazilian it is not easy to adapt quickly to the Italian league," he mused. "So I'm glad that I did it and now I am very proud to wear the captain's armband for Milan."
Thiago Silva, who has been capped 24 times by his country, arrived at San Siro from Fluminense in 2009 and has gone on to establish himself as one of the most highly-rated centre-backs in the world.
