Draw with Roma was a fair result, says Juventus' Gianluigi Buffon

The veteran custodian, who saved Francesco Totti's 63rd minute spot-kick, believes that the 1-1 stalemate in Rome was the best outcome for both sides in a hard fought match

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has described his side's 1-1 away draw with Roma in Serie A on Monday night as a "fair result".

Playing at the Stadio Olimpico, the home side took the lead early on in the match through a Daniele De Rossi strike and it was not until the 61st minute when Juventus equalised through Giorgio Chiellini.

Just two minutes later Roma were awarded a penalty but Francesco Totti’s spot-kick was pushed aside by Buffon, and he insisted that the share of the spoils was the fairest outcome.

“It was a bit unjust for us to be a goal behind in the first half, because we produced more, while Roma only created one goalscoring opportunity,” he told reporters after the game.

“After the break both teams played an open game and I believe the draw was a fair result.”

The 33-year-old was also quick to downplay his side’s unbeaten start to the season and warned that fortunes can change.

He added: “We were also up at the top of the league until Christmas last year. In football, a bad month is enough to leave you with a few points behind and many problems. This is why I’m not getting thrown off course.”

Juventus currently sit atop the Serie A table, equal on 30 points with Udinese and two points ahead of both AC Milan and Lazio.
