Miroslav Klose has been ruled out of Lazio's weekend trip to Napoli, the Italian club have announced.

The 33-year-old picked up a muscular problem in Germany's 3-0 victory against the Netherlands in mid-week, in which he scored one goal and provided two assists.

It was initially expected Klose could recover in time for the match, but new tests have deemed the former Bayern Munich striker unfit.

"Klose will not play on Saturday; he returned from international duty with a muscular problem in his right leg and after the first treatment we saw that there was no improvement and that the pain was not gone," club doctor Stefano Salvatori told Lazio Style Radio.

"Given the short amount of time, it is impossible for him to recover."

The news of Klose's absence comes as a heavy blow to Lazio, who will also be without the services of Stefano Mauri and Andre Dias.

Javier Garrido and Libor Kozak are still recovering from minor knocks and their involvement in Saturday's game is still at risk.

Lazio are joint Serie A leaders with Udinese on 21 points, while Napoli are sixth, with seven points fewer.
