Inter's Maicon returns to Italy after knee surgery

The Brazil international has now returned to his club's training centre after spending the past few weeks in his native country recovering from an injury picked up in August
Inter have confirmed on their official website that full-back Maicon returned to the club's training ground, Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti, on Saturday after spending the past few weeks in Brazil.

The former Monaco defender sustained a knee problem during a training session early in August and needed surgery to shake off the injury.

Maicon underwent arthroscopic surgery on the medial meniscus of his right knee, carried out by professor Jose Luis Runco and his medical team in Rio, on August 22.

It is not yet exactly known how long it will take for Maicon to resume full fitness again, but he will not be match fit in time for Inter's Serie A opener away against Palermo on September 11.

Inter were originally scheduled to start the 2011-12 league campaign with a home match against Lecce, but the first matchday of Serie A was postponed due to a players' strike.

Serie A seems to be back on next weekend, though, as Lega Calcio and AIC are nearing an agreement.
