Inter ready to sell Maicon to Real Madrid for £17.9m
Italian club have repeatedly denied rumours regarding a sale of their defender, but now it seems they will consider selling if an offer meets their asking price
EXCLUSIVE
By Goal.com Italia
Inter will consider selling right-back Maicon to Real Madrid should a €20 million (£17.9m) offer come in from the Spanish giants, Goal.com Italia understands.
Despite persistent denials of a possible sale from Inter transfer chief Marco Branca, the club now look set to cash-in on the 29-year-old.
On Tuesday Branca insisted "Maicon will be staying" after the defender said he "would speak about Real Madrid" following his Copa America involvement with Brazil.
However, Goal.com Italia has learned Inter would have no problems in selling the defender now, rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in 2012 when his contract expires.
Maicon has consistently been linked to the Spanish giants where he would reunite with his former coach Jose Mourinho.
Last year the Brazil international came close to heading to Spain, but a £26.9m transfer proved beyond the reach of the Spanish side.
This time around, Inter will be prepared to negotiate an exit only if they receive an offer in the region of £17.9m for the player this summer.
The arrival of Jonathan from Santos has led to coach Gian Piero Gasperini considering his options as he plans further changes to the squad ahead of next season.
