Roma coach Claudio Ranieri: Serie A lost a great in Jose Mourinho
Ranieri suggests Italy will miss 'The Special One'...
By Adam Scime
Roma boss Claudio Ranieri has suggested that Jose Mourinho's departure from Inter this summer will be a huge loss to Serie A as a whole.
Despite the self-proclaimed 'Special One' pipping Roma to the Scudetto last season with Inter, and guiding them to Champions League glory, his departure to Real Madrid will leave a gaping hole in the Italian top-flight according to Ranieri.
The 'Tinkerman' believes the loss of the treble-winning coach to La Liga over the summer is a loss for Italian football, but is certain Rafael Benitez will make his mark as well.
"Surely the Italian league lost a great protagonist [with Jose Mourinho joining Real Madrid]," Ranieri told Il Corriere dello Sport.
"[Rafael] Benitez has a different character."
The former Chelsea manager is now preparing his side to take on rivals Inter in the Italian Supercup on August 21, but will not want to see the Giallorossi suffer another 5-1 defeat, something they were subjected to in a recent friendly against Olympiacos.
"The friendlies are finished now. It's time to turn the page. We need hard work and determination," he added.
"[Adriano] is a player who wants to be reborn, returning to the emperor he once was. He is working well and will sacrifice [for the team]. We are working to get him into a particular condition."
