Fiorentina are hoping to sign Liverpool defender Emiliano Insua with the Italian club claiming talks with the Reds over a possible move are in place.

Sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has announced that the youngster could be on his way to the Serie A side this summer, insisting that talks with Liverpool have been going on for weeks.

"There is a negotiation for Insua, we've been talking [with Liverpool] for a few weeks," Corvino told calciomercato.com.

"We are interested in player, we'll see how it will end."

Insua should cost in the region of £4 million, but no details regarding the player's length of contract or salary have been confirmed. The transfer is expected to be finalised shortly as the Viola look to bolster their squad after finishing 11th in Serie A last season.

In terms of high profile transfers, the Italians have already brought in goalkeeper Artur Boruc from Celtic and midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino from Udinese this summer.

The club did, however, previously deny any interest in Argentina left-back Insua. "Interest for Insua? I don't even know him," club chief executive Menucci responded earlier this month, when asked about a possible move at the start of the month.
