Klopp recently sneered that Sammer has not contributed anything to Bayern's success and should consider himself lucky to be part of the Bavarians. The Dormund coach’s comments came after the Bayern sporting director stated that the reigning Bundesliga champions dominate the league because they work harder than their rivals.Beckenbauer by no means agrees with Klopp, though, and has now come to Sammer's defence.
"I dare say that Bayern would not have achieved this kind of success without Matthias Sammer," Beckenbauer told Sky.
"Matthias came to Bayern at just the right time, Bayern were seemingly dying. He then formed a fantastic partnership with Jupp Heynckes. Those two revived the team.
"He now enjoys a similar relationship with Pep Guardiola. There's not a better duo out there than Matthias and Guardiola."
Sammer joined Bayern in the summer of 2012 and saw the Bavarians lift the treble in his first season at the club.
