The Brazil international hails his Bayern Munich team-mate for providing a solid base between the posts and instilling a confidence in the defenders in front of him
The Germany international was named the world's top No.1 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) earlier in January and the Brazilian feels that his team-mate fully deserves the recognition.
"We always aim to protect our goalkeeper and make sure he does not get into any difficult situations," the 30-year-old told the press.
"But you automatically feel confident when you know that you have the best goalkeeper in the world standing behind you.
"We are all very happy for Manuel that he was voted the world's best and have already congratulated him on it."
Neuer has kept nine clean sheets in 16 Bundesliga appearances so far this season.
