The 29-year-old Bayern Munich star faces a nervous wait to discover whether or not he can participate in Friday's showpiece match after spraining his ankle on TuesdayBayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger could miss Friday's Super Cup clash with Chelsea through injury.
The Germany international limped off the field injured during the Bavarians' 1-1 draw with Freiburg on Tuesday, prompting Bayern boss Pep Guardiola to confirm that the 29-year-old faces a battle to be fit to face the Blues.
The 42-year-old told reporters: "[Schweinsteiger] sprained his ankle. There will be a medical check [on Wednesday].
"I hope he will play on Friday but we do not know that yet."
Tuesday's result brought Bayern's 100 per cent start to the Bundesliga season to an end but Guardiola insists that he is happy with his side's performance.
"We played well, very well," he remarked, "but, if you're only 1-0 up in the Bundesliga, things like this can always happen. We never stopped attacking and we had chances but I'm very, very proud of my players."
The former Barcelona boss opted to rest a number of key players for the visit to the Mage Solar Stadion ahead of Friday's game, with Arjen Robben, Philipp Lahm, Franck Ribery and Mario Mandzukic all named on the bench.
