Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc has branded match-winner Jonas Hofmann "outstanding" following his goal in the 1-0 win over Hamburg on Sunday.
BVB were beaten 1-0 by Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday in the pre-season tournament Telekom Cup semi-final stage but were able to triumph in the third-place play-off to salvage some pride.
Hofmann, 21, found a pocket of space after a storming run into the box on 24 minutes and slammed a shot into the top corner for what proved to be the first and only goal of the 60-minute match.
"He took his goal with class," Dortmund general manager Zorc told Sat1. "He has made an outstanding impression in pre-season so far. It was right to pull him up to the first-team squad."
Hofmann joined the club in 2011 from Hoffenheim but has been confined largely to the reserves, with his first-team debut coming in April last season against Augsburg.
