The 28-year-old is in negotiations with Werder Bremen over a proposed move after struggling to adapt to life in China following his £7.2 million switch from BVB last year
The 28-year-old, who swapped Signal Iduna Park for Chinese outfit Guangzhou Evergrande last year, has been linked with a return to Germany recently having endured an indifferent debut season in Asia.
And, speaking to Bild, Barrios' representative, Giacomo Petralito, confirmed his client was in negotitations with the Bremen-based club.
"We are in talks with Werder," he said. "Lucas has a keen interest in joining them because they're a good club."
The Paraguay international opted to quit BVB last summer having lost his place in Jurgen Klopp's side to Robert Lewandowski following an injury-plagued final season.
Barrios made 102 appearances for Dortmund throughout his three-year stay with the club and has netted six times in 16 matches for the Chinese outfit since leaving Germany.
