The ex-Athletic Bilbao midfielder reveals that he is happy to be playing for his new club and that he wants to thank his team-mates for helping him to settle in Germany

Javi Martinez says that he feels at home in his new surroundings at the Allianz Arena following his move to Bayern Munich.

The Spain international scored his first goal for the club on Saturday with an acrobatic over-head kick in Bayern's 5-0 victory over Hannover, and the ex-Athletic Bilbao midfielder says he has much more to offer.

"My colleagues have really helped me a lot," he told Kicker.

"I feel at home in Bavaria and I will keep getting better. The plan is to do it slowly, proceed step by step. Last year was very hard for me. The goal on Saturday proves I am on my way."

Following comments from Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes that Martinez was affected by the number of games he played last season for Bilbao, the 24-year old admitted it had impacted on his displays for his new side.

"The coach is right, last season I finished in Bilbao [having played] over 60 games in all competitions," he said.

"After such a tough season you actually need a longer break than normal, but because of the two major tournaments I did not get the time off that I needed, and wanted, before my start over here at Bayern."
