The Westfalenstadion side's leader has congratulated the youngster on his recent performances, comparing him to the recently departed Japan international
The 32-year-old defensive midfielder lauded the Germany international after his excellent display in the club's 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
"Mario [Gotze] can play anywhere, even at right-back," he told Bild. "But it is true, he is brilliant at the top of the midfield. His agility and manoeuvrability remind me of Shinji [Kagawa]."
And even sporting director Michael Zorc was moved to extol the 20-year-old's performances, saying: "This whole game was class. Playing Mario Gotze and Marco Reus shows just how good we have become."
Dortmund are so far unbeaten this season, winning two and drawing one of their first three Bundesliga games.
They also host Ajax in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday.
