Bayern must have a 'completely different mental attitude' after two-year drought, says Heynckes

The Bundesliga outfit's trainer has urged his charges to show extra motivation to succeed and rediscover their winning mentality this season after their disappointment last term
Jupp Heynckes is confident that his Bayern Munich players will start the new campaign with renewed optimism after finishing last season without any trophies.

The Bavarian giants' head coach has stressed that it is crucial for the squad to recover their winning mentality, and added that there is no room for complacency.

"I'm utterly convinced we can be optimistic about the new campaign, although we've had a few things to get over," Heynckes stated to the club's official website.

"After a season like last term, you come back for pre-season training even more motivated. "We've now won nothing for two years, so you have to report back for training with a completely different mental attitude, completely different motivation, a totally different approach.

"We have to recover our winning mentality at all costs, and we have to do something for that to happen. We have to do more than normal. It was shown again at the Euros: you can never be over-confident, never be satisfied, and you always have to step up another gear."

Bayern start the new Bundesliga season with an away match against newly-promoted Greuther Furth on August 24.
