The Germany international has been on the sidelines with a hip problem, and been conducting rehabilitation in Donaustauf in a bid to return to fitness.
The Signal Iduna Park boss has revealed that his playmaker is backing training with the ball, and is eyeing a return to first-team action soon.
"The plan is that Mario can directly train with the ball and has already started running," the Bundesliga-winning coach told Bild.
"We will see what recommendations he brings back from Donaustauf, and when he can fully return."
In Gotze's absence Dortmund have opened up a five-point gap at the top of the German top flight, with a crunch match against Bayern Munich on April 11 sure to have a big say in the season's title race.
