Werder Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs has revealed that homesick midfielder Wesley is on the verge of joining Palmeiras.
The two clubs reportedly agreed a fee of £5 million for the twice-capped Brazil international but the deal was held up as Bremen waited for certain financial guarantees to met.
However, Allofs confirmed at a press conference that the deal is now all but done.
"Today we have made a significant step forward," he said, with only a successful completion of the requisite medical exam now said to be standing between the player and his return home.
Bremen paid £6.3m to take Wesley off Santos' hands in 2010 but the midfielder never managed to settle in Germany and stated only last week that he was desperate to secure a move away from the Weserstadion before the close of the Brazilian transfer window on April 30.
