Former Basel coach Thorsten Fink says that Xherdan Shaqiri would be well suited for a move to Bayern Munich.

The now-Hamburg trainer wore the red of the Bavarian giants for nine seasons during his playing career, and believes that the Switzerland international, whom he coached for two years, would do well at his former side.

"Xherdan is a great young player who has excellent dribbling skills," he told Sport1.

"He was already at the World Cup at the age of 17. He could become a real crowd favourite if he joins Bayern. Just his physical presence would do the trick.

"He's quite small, like Bixente Lizarazu, and looks like a Ninja Turtle. He's a great guy, who's very out going," the 44-year-old concluded.

Shaqiri was courted by Turkish side Galatasaray throughout January, but the two clubs were unable to agree a fee, despite the player admitting an interest in a move to Fatih Terem's men.

Bayern Munich will see the attacking midfielder's abilities first hand in February, as they meet Basel in the last 16 of the Champions League.
