Bayer Leverkusen chief executive Wolfgang Holzhauser is leading the calls for Michael Ballack to be given a proper send off prior to the midfielder's departure from German football.

The 35-year-old previously hinted that he is likely to leave the BayArena over the summer, and his decision has prompted the supremo to publicly declare his wish for the ex-Chelsea star to be honoured as his departure looms.

"After such a great career, Michael Ballack should not be allowed to simply disappear," Holzhauser was quoted as saying by Express.

"I'll talk to him again, about whether it is possible for a great farewell - this would involve the national team."

Ballack's whereabouts after his proposed send off at the end of the season has been the subject of intense speculation, but the MLS appears to be his most likely destination following his agent's admission.
