Bayern Munich's Breno leaves training with suspected anterior cruciate ligament tear

The Brazilian centre-back is set for a lengthy absence after he suffered what is believed to be a re-occurrence of injury he sustained last season, putting summer transfer in doubt
Bayern Munich defender Breno has received a bitter blow ahead of what could have been his last match for the club.

The 21-year-old sustained a knee injury in training on Wednesday, and after initial tests on the pitch, it is suspected that he has a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to Sport1.

The injury comes just 14 months after Breno sustained a similar injury while on loan at Nurnberg. After his setback in early March, the Brazilian did not return to competitive action until mid-November of 2010. He will face a similar timetable of recovery with his second major injury.

Having had a miserable campaign at Bayern this year, Breno was expecting a move to Sao Paulo at season's end. He had reported a move on his Twitter account, but a deal between the Brazilian club and Bayern could be off given that the player is damaged goods and may not be fit to play before January's Paulista season begins.

Breno's contract at Bayern runs until 2012. Having been blighted by injuries, the young defender has made just 13 Bundesliga appearances this season.
