Martin Demichelis has been left out of the Bayern Munich squad to play Kaiserslautern on Friday, head coach Louis van Gaal has confirmed.
The centre-back, who also missed the game against Wolfsburg last weekend, has been linked with a move to Chelsea over the last few days.
"He won't play against Kaiserslautern for the same reason why he didn't play against Wolfsburg last week. We've discussed the situation with Demichelis and have together made the decision to leave him out of the squad," Van Gaal told Bild.
"He has been an undisputed starter at Bayern for six years. It's hard for him that he has lost his starting berth all of a sudden and we can't expect him to be fully focussed on doing his job right now.
"However, there's a good possibility that he'll return to the team if he doesn't leave the club before the transfer window closes. He just needs some time to deal with his new situation."
Demichelis has also been linked with, Juventus, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid in the past couple of weeks, but Bayern haven't received an official offer for the centre back just yet.
Despite being highlighted as a weak link in Argentina’s defence at the World Cup, Demichelis is rated as the 62nd best player in the world by the Castrol Rankings.
