Tottenham Hotspur target Simon Kjaer will join Wolfsburg within days - Palermo chief Maurizio Zamparini

Danish international not on his way to Spurs...

There's no way back and nowhere else to go for Simon Kjaer apart from Wolfsburg as the countdown to his move to Germany begins, according to Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini.

"Kjaer has not signed with Wolfsburg yet, but we are almost there. It's just a matter of days now," Zamparini told Reterete24.it.

On Monday reports in Italy had claimed the 21-year-old Danish international had agreed personal terms with the German outfit, and although Tottenham Hotspur have been closely tracking the highly rated centre-back, it seems he is now Bundesliga bound.

Meanwhile, Zamparini confirmed Edinson Cavani would be following Kjaer out of the door, but he did not spell out where the axe would fall in relation to his next club. One thing for sure is that it certainly won't be Inter.

"I will never give Cavani to Inter. I will never establish a transfer with them because I think they are not interested in him," he added.

"Plus, I don't like the attitude of their directors. Cavani will move abroad, never to Inter."

So, Luis Suarez opts to reject Patrice's Evra's offer of a handshake then. He has made himself look a right plum (feel free to insert more vitriolic expletives there).

And a couple interesting tidbits for you before we get underway.

Did you know... Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are both in the starting XI of a Prem League match  more than 18 years after their first PL start together in Nov 1994. And also, Wayne Rooney has scored more Prem League goals this season (15) than the entire starting XI of Liverpool today (12).

Free feel to regurgitate those ones at the pub later. No need to thank me.

Here's our man Greg Stobart with a little bit of colour for you:

Welcome to Old Trafford, where Luis Suarez has just received a taster of what’s to come as he left the pitch following Liverpool’s warm-up. ‘You racist b******’ chanted the United fans in the Stretford End towards the Uruguayan, who will be public enemy No. 1 here today. The frosty and overcast in Manchester as the stands fill up with around 10 minutes until kick-off. There’s plenty of excitement here in the press box about a fixture described by Sir Alex Ferguson as United’s ‘main derby’ - especially with the added incentive for the hosts of going to the top of the Premier League ahead of City’s game tomorrow.

Anyway, getting sidetracked. Predictions are flying in through twitter for the United/Liverpool game, with just 15 minutes till kick-off.
