thumbnail Hello,

The joint French Coach of the Year hopes the Italian coach stays at Paris Saint-Germain as he thinks he is an important figure in inspiring trainers like himself

Saint-Etienne coach Christophe Galtier believed that it would be damaging to Ligue 1 if Carlo Ancelotti leaves Paris Saint-Germain.

Speculation linking the Italian with a move to Real Madrid has heightened with Jose Mourinho's departure having been confirmed but the French coach believes it would be a real disappointment if the title-winning coach left.

"It's a shame for French football, it would be a shame for the French coaches, especially young people like me," the 46-year-old told Canal+.

"If we can bring in the best coaches, we must be guided by the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, in terms of communication, behaviour and management. He is attractive to a club like Real Madrid, we can understand that."

Galtier guided Saint-Etienne to fourth in Ligue 1 with a game to go and can still reach the third and final Champions League spot if they can better the result of Olympique Lyonnais on the final day of the season.

Ancelotti and Galtier were voted joint Coach of the Year earlier in May and the Frenchman has stressed what an honour it was to share the accolade with the Italian trainer.

"To share this trophy with a man like Carlo Ancelotti, it is not just anything," he added. "Carlo is world class."

Saint-Etienne's final game of the season is against Lille on May 26.
