The ex-France international believes Carlo Ancelotti is shaping a team 'of ideas' and hopes thorough preparation can inspire last season's Ligue 1 runners-up to go one better

Claude Makelele has vowed that Paris Saint-Germain will not be caught short at the start of the new campaign.

The former Real Madrid and Chelsea star joined coach Carlo Ancelotti at the Parc des Princes last season, after the Italian's appointment as coach in December 2011.

Under Ancelotti's guidance, the Paris giants finished runners-up to Montpellier in Ligue 1 last term and set a record for the most points amassed by a second-placed side (79).

After a summer on the training ground, Makelele believes his side will be more than ready for the coming season.

After a 9-0 friendly win against Austrian side Stegersbach on Wednesday, Makelele stated that Ancelotti's side were shaping up well.

"Since the beginning of [pre-season], everyone is working well and the coach is pretty happy with what he saw," he told France Football.

"Last year it was much more difficult. We were caught short because there was no real preparation. [Ancelotti] has more time to prepare a competitive group and put a team together with his ideas."
