The France international has protested his innocence on his Facebook page after being implicated in the alleged sexual assault of a 38-year-old woman
It was claimed that the France international had been detained following an allegation of rape made against the 26-year-old striker and another player.
"I formally deny the accusations that have been made against me and, contrary to what has been written, I absolutely did not spend the night in police custody," Gomis wrote on his Facebook page. "Thanks for all your support."
A police official in Lyon reportedly told AFP that two players had been questioned in connection with the rape of a 38-year-old woman. Lyon, though, subsequently issued a statement in which they supported Gomis' claim.
"OL formally deny that Bafetimbi Gomis spent the night in custody and that any other player may be implicated in the investigation mentioned by media, whose reports could be harmful to those involved and to OL as an institution."
Gomis, who has six France caps to his name, scored 14 goals in Ligue 1 this season but was not included in Laurent Blanc's squad for Euro 2012.
