Michel Platini: If Paris Saint-Germain sign David Beckham, it's not because of football reasons

The Uefa supremo has voiced his opinion that the former Manchester United ace is no longer a top player, but will still sell plenty of shirts for whoever he signs for
Uefa president Michel Platini has stated that former England international David Beckham is no longer the player he once was and added that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing the midfielder for commercial reasons.

PSG's sporting director, Leonardo, recently stated that the Ligue 1 giants are keen to lure the former Manchester United star to Paris, but Platini feels their interest has little to do with Beckham's qualities as a footballer.

"Beckham to Paris, that will be quite a boost for the shops in Paris," Platini said to RTL when asked about the potential transfer.

"I really like him as a player, but he's no longer the midfielder that he once was.

"If he's coming to Paris Saint-Germain, it will be for other reasons than just to play football."

The 36-year-old's contract with LA Galaxy is set to expire next month. He has also been linked with Premier League sides QPR and Tottenham Hotspur.
