Roy Hodgson's men departed soon after the conclusion of their 0-0 draw with Costa Rica rounded off a trying campaign in Brazil which saw them eliminated after just two games.

The Three Lions arrived at Manchester airport before continuing on to Luton for players based nearer to London.

Defeats to Italy and Uruguay ended England’s campaign prematurely even before they could face eventual group winners Costa Rica, leaving them with just one point – statistically the country’s worst ever performance at a World Cup finals.

Their next competitive fixture is away to Switzerland on September 8, the first match of qualifying for Euro 2016, with a friendly at Wembley against Norway to precede it.
