The 17-year-old has been in fine form for the Saints and is rewarded with his first Young Lions call-up, while Phil Jones, Jordan Henderson and Wilfried Zaha are all includedSouthampton defender Luke Shaw has been called into the England Under-21 squad for the upcoming game against Sweden next Tuesday.
Shaw has impressed many in the Premier League this season and has been linked with moves to England's biggest clubs. The 17-year-old is the only new call-up in Stuart Pearce’s squad which involves a strong contingent of Premier League players.
Manchester United defender Phil Jones is recalled after returning from injury in November, while regulars such as Jordan Henderson, Craig Dawson and Jason Lowe are included, leaving manager Stuart Pearce feeling “lucky” to have such talent at his disposal.
Pearce told the Football Association's official website: “You could manage for 50 years and not find three more professional and dedicated players than those lads. We’re very lucky to have this clutch of players involved with the Under-21s.
“It has been nearly three months since we were last together as a squad, so we are looking forward to meeting up again at St George’s Park to spend time working on our preparations for what will be an important year.
“We've always said that reaching major finals at youth level is vital in a player’s development so they can learn about what they might expect, should they progress to the senior team and find themselves at a World Cup or European Championship.
“For a number of the young players lucky enough to experience the Finals in June it will prove to be an invaluable time in Israel, and perhaps a springboard to Roy [Hodgson]'s side, with Brazil 2014 on the horizon.”
