Arsenal's Jack Wilshere 'shocked' & 'gutted' at Fabio Capello's resignation as England manager

The Gunners midfielder was given his debut for the national team by the former Real Madrid boss and is extremely disappointed the Italian has decided to end his tenure

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has reacted to the news of Fabio Capello’s resignation as England manager, admitting he is "shocked" and "gutted" to see him leave.

Wilshere was given his debut for the national team by Capello in August 2010, coming on as a substitute against Hungary and going on to play another four times, and he is very grateful for being given his chance.

The 20-year-old concedes that people will always have their own perceptions of the former AC Milan and Real Madrid boss, but highlights the influence and impact he has had in his own career.

Speaking on his official Twitter account, Wilshere said: “Shocked about news on Fabio Capello...gutted to be honest, gave me my 1st cap and believed in me! Thank you Mr Capello! #GreatManager

“People have there [sic] own judgement on Capello but for a young player who was given the chance to play for my country at such a young age, he has shown great belief and trust in me so I can only thank him....

“massive influence on my career so far! Sad to see him go!"

Wilshere also lamented the uncertainty now circulating around the England national team, with only a few months until Euro 2012 and the team no longer has a manager or captain.

He continued: "The question everyone is asking, fans and players, where do we go from here? Euro's is just around the corner and we have no manager?!?"
