England under-21 captain Jordan Henderson has described his side’s late defeat to Belgium as a "wake-up call".

At 1-0 up with less than 20 minutes to play, Stuart Pearce’s young side looked set to pick up all three points from the game in Mons on Monday night.

However, a late collapse saw them concede two goals and relinquish the lead, subsequently dropping their first points of the qualifying campaign.

Despite this, the side still top their group by four points with just three games to go, and Henderson believes they will learn from the defeat.

“We are very disappointed,” Henderson told reporters.

“We felt we did well in the second half when we settled into the game, but we are still top, in a good position and we need to win our last three games.

“The games are not easy. We have a lot of work to do and hopefully this will give us a wake-up call for the games ahead.

“We need to be more streetwise in the last minutes to not concede but we will learn from that and come back stronger.”

England round off their qualifying campaign for Israel 2013 with home games against Norway and Belgium either side of a trip to Azerbaijan.
