Everton's Spanish born midfielder Mikel Arteta has reiterated his desire to "very seriously" consider an England call up.

Arteta, 28, has excelled on Merseyside since joining in 2005 and will soon be eligible for the Three Lions team under residency regulations. After being overlooked for the Spain side despite representing them at under-21 level, a switch of nationality could be on the cards.

Speaking to The Sun, Arteta repeated the message that he would consider an approach from manager Fabio Capello.

He said: "The situation is the same as it has always been.

"No one has contacted me and I spoke about my thoughts on it clearly last week.

"I said it once and I'll say it again. If that chance comes I'll consider it very seriously."

"I don't think it's me that has to make the decision," the midfielder who has grabbed 23 goals in 133 Premier League appearances added.

"The FA have to think about it and propose something.

"They have to talk to me and then we can talk about it. I don't think it's me who has to say anything because it's not my job.

"But if Capello and the FA say it's all right then I'll say what I think. At the moment, there is nothing."
