The Englishman aims to win many trophies with his new club

James Milner believes that moving to Manchester City will help his secure his spot in the England line-up.

The midfielder completed to City from Aston Villa for £26 million and is set to make his first appearance for his new club when they take on Liverpool on Monday.

The 24-year-old thinks that playing with the multitude of quality players at City will help him become a regular in Fabio Capello’s starting XI.

"It might help my England chances," Milner told The Mirror.

"If you're playing week in, week out with good players you're putting yourself in the window for the England team. But I just want to go out there and play as well as I can, become the best player I can and win trophies.

"I came close last year when we lost the Carling Cup final but hopefully we can go one better here and win something. It would nice to have some medals to show the grandchildren when you finish your career and they're aiming as high as possible here."

While Milner played as an outside midfielder for the Three Lions at the World Cup in South Africa, the Englishman believes that his best role is in the centre of the midfield, a place that City boss Roberto Mancini considers his best position.

"Wherever the manager wants to play I'll do it to the best of my ability.

"I enjoy it in the middle, that's probably my best position and I've shown my best football there over the last 18 months.

“I've been at my most creative and I've scored goals there. I've enjoyed it immensely in the middle and I think that's where he's signed me to play.

"But if he asks me to play anywhere else, I'll do whatever is best for the team. As long as the team is winning that's all that matters."
