Spain coach Vicente del Bosque announces squad for matches against Liechtenstein and Argentina
The World Cup winning boss offers little surprises in his 21-man selection...
By Paul Macdonald
La Furia Roja take on minnows Liechtenstein as they begin the defence of their European Championship crown, travelling to the capital Vaduz for the clash on September 3.
Del Bosque’s world champions will then head to Buenos Aries for a friendly clash with the Albicelestes four days later.
The former Real Madrid trainer has named a full-strength selection, with Fernando Torres returning to the fray after missing out on the recent trip to Mexico through injury, while Villarreal midfielder Santi Cazorla retains his place in the squad from last month’s friendly.
La Roja will be expected to comfortably see off Liechtenstein in their opening Group I encounter, a section which also includes Scotland, Czech Republic and Lithuania.
The squad list is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Casillas, Valdes, Reina
Defenders: Arbeloa, Sergio Ramos, Capdevila, Marchena, Pique, Puyol
Midfield: Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Xavi, Fabregas, Cazorla, David Silva, Jesús Navas, Iniesta
Strikers: Pedro, Llorente, Villa, Torres
