thumbnail Hello,

The Napoli defender has said he lost enthusiasm for the national side after constantly being omitted from squads by a succession of coaches and added he does not watch their games

Napoli defender Paolo Cannavaro has admitted he no longer watches Italy play and is not too worried about being continually overlooked for a call-up.

The Partenopei centre-back has yet to register a cap for the Azzurri and has only been called-up once, for a friendly against South Africa in 2007.

The 31-year-old, however, remains unperturbed by not being able to represent his country and claims he is not interested in the fortunes of Cesare Prandelli’s side.

“There is no sense of regret that I keep being excluded,” Cannavaro told Radio Marte.

“To be honest, I don’t even watch the Italian national side anymore. I haven’t since my brother Fabio stopped playing for them.”

The former Parma man has been a mainstay of the Neapolitans’ backline since re-signing for the club in 2006 but despite putting in good performances for the Serie A side, he has been blanked by Prandelli.

The 55-year-old's side have a friendly against France on Wednesday.
