Monday's Bet of the Day: A close match predicted between Crystal Palace and Birmingham City

The Eagles have conceded just one goal in their last five league games at Selhurst Park, and top tipster Adam Bate is expecting a low scoring game on Monday night

Match odds: Crystal Palace 17/10, Draw 11/5, Birmingham 13/8

With Birmingham City’s European adventure now over, manager Chris Hughton will be hoping for renewed focus on the club’s Championship campaign – starting against Dougie Freedman's Crystal Palace on Monday evening. But the Midlands side can expect a difficult night’s work at Selhurst Park where the Eagles have tasted defeat just once this season.

Indeed, no opposition player has scored against Crystal Palace in over nine hours of football with the only goal conceded in that time being a Paddy McCarthy own goal against Derby County.

In total, there have been just fifteen goals scored in the 10 league games at Selhurst Park this season – fewer than at any other Football League ground.

There appears little reason to anticipate a goal glut for the home side this time around either. Crystal Palace’s attacking options are reduced with exciting young talent Wilfried Zaha forced to miss the game through suspension. Given that Birmingham have neither conceded nor scored three goals in a game in their last 15 matches, this could well be a low-scoring encounter in front of the television cameras.

For this reason, the 4/6 (1.67) on offer with Stan James for under 2.5 goals seems tempting. If you are feeling particularly brave, the same bookmaker also offers the best price of 8/1 (9.0) on a goalless draw. That’s a distinct possibility given that Freedman’s Crystal Palace side recently served up three of those in a row for their home fans prior to the 1-1 draw with Derby.

If there is to be a goal, Crystal Palace look best placed to score it and the 6/1 (7.0) on offer with Stan James for their top scorer Glenn Murray to grab the first might be the best option.
