Bet of the Day: Ajax unlikely to experience a Greek tragedy against PAOK
Eredivisie runners-up expected to win comfortably at home tonight
By Patrick Reilly
We have plenty of time for Ajax on Bet of the Day after they came up trumps against Chelsea last week in a game where goals looked likely. The Dutch runners-up host Greek outfit PAOK in a Champions League qualifier which just screams comfortable home win.
Ajax have hung on to coach Martin Jol despite the overtures of Fulham. Now that story has been put to bed a successful Eredivisie and European campaign will be on Jol's agenda starting tonight in the Amsterdam Arena. World Cup hitman Luis Suarez is likely to start tonight, and having bagged 49 goals in 48 games last season he will look to get off the mark in this game. Scoring goals isn't a problem for the Dutch outfit who netted an incredible 106 in their domestic league and still ended up in second place!
PAOK scooped the Greek play-off and Champions League qualifying place that comes with it after a solid campaign last time round. European football at the elite level is a relatively new experience for them as they are more used to the UEFA Cup/Europa League. Their last match in European competition came against Dutch opponents when they drew with Heerenveen 0-0 away from home last year.
Preparations have been less than perfect for the Greeks who sacked coach Mario Berretta last week; he'd been in charge for under a month. PAOK endured a dismal tour of Germany, drawing 1-1 with Nurnberg and losing 3-1 to third division Kickers Offenbach. New coach Pavlos Dermitzakis has a difficult first assignment to put it mildly in Amsterdam tonight.
* Ajax shouldn't endure many problems so the Jol's boys to win the first half at 1.74 is a great runner.
* Our best bet is Ajax at -1, -1.5 at 1.72. De Godenzonen score goals for fun and with Suarez are expected to make light work of their visitors.
Match Odds: Ajax 1.28, Draw 4.67, PAOK 8.46

Yesterday's Tip
We flagged up a number of tips for Malmo - Fulham and our best bet of a home win or draw at 1.72 paid off nicely. The game finished 0-0 in Sweden and as luck would have it the Londoners missed a penalty and had a goal ruled out for offside.
