thumbnail Hello,

Luis Enrique's side travel to Alicante for this Copa Del Rey clash where one of their Catalans' summer signings has the opportunity to finally find the back of the net

More than seven years have passed since Hercules recorded one of the biggest shocks in modern La Liga history, beating Barcelona 2-0 in their opening home game of the 2010-11 campaign.

The intervening years have seen the Blaugrana crowned champions of Europe twice and champions of Spain on four occasions, while their opponents from Alicante have slumped to the third tier of Spanish football.

The last few years have been particularly painful for Hercules fans, yet Wednesday night gives them a chance to relive past glories against the Catalans and while the Estadio Rico Perez is unlikely to be full to its 30,000 capacity, there will certainly be a good atmosphere. Betfair offer the hosts at 14/1 (15.00), while Barca can be backed at 1/6 (1.17) and the draw is offered at 6/1 (7.00).

Of course Barca make the trip down the east coast off the back of an extremely poor performance in La Liga at Real Sociedad where manager Luis Enrique deemed it a "miracle" that his side managed to claim a 1-1 draw.

The Blaugrana are six points behind leaders Real Madrid, whom they face on Saturday in what could prove a pivotal Clasico meeting, and there is a real need to improve.

While the Copa del Rey is far from a priority for the Catalans, they will be keen to avoid any further negative press ahead of the biggest game in world football this weekend.

And, while Enrique will not field a first choice team in Alicante, the manager will pick a side more than capable of winning.

Someone for whom this game is a real chance is Paco Alcacer with the summer signing from Valencia almost certain to start up front. The Spain international has had a difficult time so far in Catalonia, with his 322 minutes of football so far yet to yield a goal.

With the attacking trident of Messi, Suarez and Neymar likely to be rested, Alcacer will surely be Barca's most potent goal threat and the price of 13/5 (3.60) for him to open the scoring should be of interest to punters.
