Claude Puel's men are in fine form and our tipster is expecting a goal-laden encounter when the Saints travel to take on Inter in Thursday's Europa League tie
Southampton are in superb shape ahead of their trip to San Siro to face Inter in the Europa League. Claude Puel's men brushed Burnley aside on Sunday, claiming a comfortable 3-1 win at St Mary's - a result that means that Saints have now gone seven matches without defeat in all competitions.
In stark contrast, Inter crashed to defeat against Cagliari at the weekend - a third defeat in four outings for Frank de Boer's men and the Serie A side have now won just one of their last five fixtures. There are also issuies off the pitch as Mauro Icardi's new book has stirred up trouble between some sections of the fanbase.
Furthermore, Inter have yet to pick up their first point in the group stages of this competition following chastening defeats against both Hapoel Be'er Sheva and Sparta Prague respectively in their opening two games.
The home defeat against Hapoel in particular hurt Inter and, as such, de Boer's side will be desperate to put things right against Puel's men; the hosts are chalked up as a 23/20 (2.15) chance with Paddy Power to kickstart their campaign with a win in this one.
That could be easier said than done though, for the goal that Puel's side conceded in the victory over the Clarets at the weekend was the first goal that the Hampshire outfit have conceded in seven outings, while Southampton have scored 12 goals in their last seven matches.
As such, the 2/1 (3.0) quote from Paddy Power for the Premier League team to come out on top in this fixture may well prove popular, while the odds compilers offer 11/5 (3.20) that Saints claim a share of the spoils at San Siro.
Furthermore, Paddy Power offer 11/4 (3.75) that Saints keep a clean sheet - a selection that would have paid dividends in six of Southampton's last seven games, including in both of their previous two outings in this competition thus far this term.
Despite their troubles, Inter have found the net in each of their last seven matches, while Southampton have a number of injury concerns ahead of Thursday's tussle.
With Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares already on the sidelines, Puel's problems were compounded when Matt Targett limped off in the early stages of the win against Burnley and, despite their superb defensive record of late, the visitors may be vulnerable with an inexperienced back four in Milan.
Southampton have failed to score in six of their last seven away games in European competition, but Puel can certainly call upon an impressive array of attacking talent with Charlie Austin, Nathan Redmond and Dusan Tadic all likely to pose problems for a home defence that appears to be devoid of confidence, having kept just two clean sheets in 11 matches this term.
The selection would have paid dividends in three of Inter's last four games and, with both teams likely to go for goals, backing the 10/11 (1.91) quote may well yield profit for punters in this tie.
