Leicester City will bid to maintain their 100% record in the Uefa Champions League when they play host to FC Copenhagen on Tuesday night.
The hosts have faltered in their defence of the Premier League title so far this season, for Claudio Ranieri’s side have picked up just eight points from their opening eight league games, with the latest setback coming in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
In European competition, however, the Foxes have been fantastic thus far, winning both of their opening Group G games against Club Brugge and Porto respectively; as such, Ranieri’s side stand on the brink of the knockout stages and another three points from this tie would see the English champions move to within touching distance of the last 16 of the competition.
The Foxes are a 17/20 (1.85) chance to claim a vital victory on home turf, but the Danes will provide dangerous opposition, having picked up four points from their opening two group fixtures thus far.
Furthermore, Stale Solbakken’s side are unbeaten in their last 23 matches in all competitions – a run of results that includes eight Champions League ties; as such, punters may well be tempted to snap up Betway’s 7/2 (4.50) quote for an away win, while the odds compilers offer 5/2 (3.50) that both sides are forced to settle for a share of the spoils from this crucial clash.
However, home advantage could well prove pivotal for the Foxes, for, including qualifiers, Copenhagen have won just one of their last 10 Champions League ties on their travels, while the Danes’ only away win in the group stages of the competition came six years ago against Panathinaikos.
Defensive discipline was a cornerstone of Leicester’s remarkable title triumph last year and, while the Foxes have leaked goals on the road, Ranieri’s side have conceded in just two of their six home games so far this season; subsquently, the 5/4 (2.25) quote for the hosts to chalk up another clean sheet may prove popular.
Solbakken’s side have scored five goals in their opening two group games – with all five goals coming after the break – and the odds compilers offer a tempting 23/20 (2.15) that most of the scoring comes in the second half of this match.
Ranieri’s men, however, have produced their best form in this competition this season and it is the 17/20 (1.85) quote on offer for the Foxes to pick up another three points that carries most appeal.
Leicester have lost just one of their last 22 home matches inside 90 minutes and, as such, the Premier League champions are super value at 17/20 (1.85) to add to Copenhagen’s away-day blues in Tuesday’s Champions League crunch clash.
